Ride & Train

The Borders Academy of Sporting Excellence (BASE) is all about one thing - your sport. It's rare to be able to learn through the sport or hobby you love but at BASE, that's our aim.

Throughout your two years with us, you will receive not only the knowledge about why you need to do certain things in order to ride faster, you'll also get the time to put it all into practice. A week will consist of a minimum of two rides and three gym sessions with the rest of the week filled with classroom work. You won't go home ever needing to train late into the night - that's what college time is for!

It's the perfect opportunity for young riders looking to dedicate themselves to their sport in a constructive, controlled and managed environment - whether you want to become a coach, guide or full time professional in the future. A number of our students have also gone on to sports degree courses at university.

"My time at BASE has been great. I've learnt loads about my riding, sport and how to motivate myself to move forwards in life" Ex-BASE Student

Over our first three years, we've had young World Cup racers, riders looking to fill their gap year's with something constructive or enthusiastic mountain bikers who enjoy learning and want to enter into an environment that's geared up for self development and incredible bike riding.

Learn

Coupled to the excellent riding and personal coaching are six BTEC learning modules that aim to show you the why's and how's behind your sport. You'll earn about sports psychology, nutrition, teamwork, physiology, technical analysis and basic training principles.

So what is a BTEC?...

BTECs are work-related qualifications suitable for a wide range of students, built to accommodate the needs of employers and allow progression to university. They provide a practical, real-world approach to learning without sacrificing any of the essential subject theory. BTECs are recognised by schools, colleges, universities, employers and professional bodies across the United Kingdom and in over 100 countries worldwide. BTECs have been around for 25 years and their reputation is second to none.

You don't have to be the world's best bike rider to apply, you just need to be passionate, motivated and ready for the best two years of your life.

The course is full time so students are required to either stay onsite in Borders College halls of residence or arrange their own accommodation.

Students out with Scotland may have to pay course fees.
